Trail Use Caution!!
Since temperatures are forecast to remain well above freezing and bring rain showers Friday night into Saturday, all ORN trails are likely to be soft and mushy on Saturday morning. ORN recommends staying off the trails Saturday to avoid leaving deep, damaging ski ruts and holes frozen into the trail surface.
Because temps are going to bring the return of the deep freeze on Sunday, with no new snowfall, damaged trails will likely become a rough and pitted sheet of ice if they’re skied on when it’s too warm.
In the fields and at the golf course, we will have the option of grooming a trail in adjacent, unbroken snow. But in the woods that’s not an option; any damage caused by skis in too-soft snow will be frozen in place until we have a decent snowfall. Unfortunately, that’s not in the ten-day forecast at the moment. 🙄
